Frustrated Mom talks on phone while looking at laptop while 2 kids yell in her ear and play with her hair.

For context, I (29F) my husband (34) and our daughter (1.5) live with his brother (35), his wife (32), and their two daughters (12 and 6).
  • 03
I had moved states to live with my husband a few years ago and we since had a daughter together.
  • 04
My husband is Brazilian and came to the U.S. in 2018, and his brother's family followed not far behind.
  • 05
He has always lived with family/friends to save money, because the area we are in currently is pretty expensive.
  • 06
When I moved in with him, he was living with 3-4 other people in a house.
  • 07
We moved a few months after I moved in to a house down the street, and moved in with his cousin and his girlfriend (at the same time).
  • 08
We had our daughter, and his cousin and girlfriend moved out about 6 months later. We had the house to ourselves for about a month before my husband suggested moving his sister-in-law and his 2 nieces in with us (his brother and sister-in-law separated shortly after they had their youngest daughter).

This was December of 2024. She was struggling paying rent/bills and he figured it would benefit both parties until we saved enough money to move (I had suggested moving back to be closer to my family and my people, so this was our goal).

She barely speaks English, but her and I always got along and I love her daughters so I agreed to let them move in with us (single family home).
  • 11
Come summer 2025, her and my husband's brother went on vacation with their girls and reconnected.
  • 12
Since then, they have had 2 major breakups and are very on and off. Fast forward to now, he officially moved in a few weeks ago.
  • 13
They can be messy and leave dishes in the sink or food on the stove for days or wear their muddy shoes inside.
  • 14
The oldest daughter has always had a lot of responsibility put on her (taking care of her younger sister, cleaning the house, etc) but they're good girls and my daughter loves them.
  • 15
Up until he moved in just recently, I have been the one doing most of the cleaning and tidying each day.
  • 16
Sister-in-law just picked up the slack when he moved in (coincidentally). Basically, things have been brewing for a while.
  • 17
On to this past weekend where I lost my shit. My husband's ex boss from Brazil moved here years ago as well.
  • 18
He has a wife and 2 daughters (about the same ages as my husband's nieces). They're basically family.
  • 19
They live about 2ish hours from us, and visit a few times throughout the year (they don't always stay at our house when visiting).
  • 20
I've always gotten along with them. So this past Friday was husband's niece's 6th birthday. Our daughter had an ear infection and strep this past week, so I've been dealing with a sick toddler.
  • 21
Husband's brother told him on Wednesday that their ex boss's family were coming this weekend. Not asking, but as a matter of fact.
  • 22
Mind you, it's Valentine's Day weekend. Also, side note, we co-sleep with our daughter. His nieces have their own room but we share a room/bed with our daughter.
  • 23
So, brother/sister in law have the advantage of having their own room/space. Basically, we aren't having sex, have no privacy, and are on the brink of divorce.
  • 24
As I was saying, brother in law tells husband that their old boss's family of 4 will be here (in our single family home with 1 bathroom) the entire weekend.
  • 25
Husband tells me and at this point I'm so busy with our sick daughter that I can't even process or put energy into it.
  • 26
As the days go on, the more I'm starting to get bothered that no one asked us or wanted to talk about it.
  • 27
Why couldn't they have traveled there instead of having them come here? My husband's ex boss usually calls and talks to my husband about coming to visit, and didn't this time, which was weird and I noticed my husband was bothered by this and confused.
  • 28
Friday evening comes, and I'm getting more and more upset about the thought of 4 extra people being in our house when I arrive home from work (I work part-time, about 15hrs/week).
  • 29
Come to find out (from 12yo niece), they're bringing their fucking dog with them. I have 2 cats.
  • 30
Who have never seen a dog in their life. At this point my blood is boiling.
  • 31
I get home from work (around 10:30pm, daughter is asleep upstairs) and I'm greeted by a yippy and growling rat-dog with a bow on its head.
  • 32
I walk past everyone, not saying a word, and go upstairs. I had asked my husband to bring up a litter box into our bedroom along with their food and water prior to me leaving for work.
  • 33
I walk in the room and notice my one cat is missing. So I go downstairs to their little area and find him cowering in the corner by their other litter box.
  • 34
The dog follows me and is barking at my cat and my cat is growling/hissing at the dog.
  • 35
I ended up grabbing a blanket from upstairs to grab my cat so I wouldn't get murdered, and it was a nightmare.
  • 36
Dog freaked out, cat freaked out, cat ran out of the room and finally ran upstairs and into our bedroom.
  • 37
At this point, I'm seeing red and I don't want to see or talk to anyone.
  • 38
The house is loud with music playing and people talking loudly and the kids running all over.
  • 39
My daughter wakes up twice. My husband comes upstairs shortly after and I tell him that I'm done and I cannot believe how inconsiderate and rude they all have been.
  • 40
It puts my husband in an uncomfortable situation because it's his family/friends, and was his nieces
  • 41
I didn't talk to anyone all weekend. We went out for a little with our daughter on Valentine's Day, but other than that, I've been home and in our room with the cats.
  • 42
Side note, I'm very introverted and need a lot of space/alone time. Husband and his family are the opposite and love company (and just culturally very different).
  • 43
Brother/sister-in-law know this and I've had to have conversations about their youngest daughter bc she follows me into my room occasionally and doesn't understand boundaries.
  • 44
They just left tonight, but I haven't spoken a word to brother/sister in law. AITAH for reacting this way?
  • 45
Husband said he will have a conversation with his brother and sister in law once ex boss's family left.
  • 46
My husband wants us to move immediately when we had originally told brother/sister in law we'd all aim for the middle to end of the year to move and find our own places.
  • 47
Husband is upset with how I reacted by not speaking to anyone but is also upset at the inconsideration of brother and sister in law.
  • 48
I hate the thought of my relationship with his family being ruined but I've had enough.
